Rapunzel
Rapunzel (Mandy Moore) is the protagonist of the film Tangled 2010. She is an eighteen year old girl long blonde/golden hair, which is showing the goodness in her, opposed to Mother Gothel (Donna Murphy), the antagonist of this movie who has raven black hair. Rapunzel has big green eyes symbolising innocence, growth, harmony, nature, healing power, endurance and safety. She wears a lilac coloured dress throughout most of this movie, this shows royalty (foreshadowing her true self), ambition, wisdom, independence, romance, creativity and magic. At the end of the movie Rapunzel's appearance has changed to short brown hair and a white/pink dress. The short haircut shows that she has fully rid herself of Gothel and her magic hair, she has put it into the past. The white dress (foreshadowing marriage) that she wears symbolises light/goodness, innocence, purity, perfection, faith, safety, love, feminism and friendship. Her personality is playful, adventurous, determined and creative. All of the songs that Rapunzel sings are in a major key, which makes the music happy and pleasing on the ears, whereas Mother Gothel's music is always in a minor key, making it sound dark, and unfriendly.
Rapunzel is the main character of Tangled and is often viewed in light. There are a couple of scenes that show the obvious good and evil in this movie. One, was at the campfire after the flood. Rapunzel was sitting next to the fire with the fire lighting up her features, whereas Gothel was standing behind her in the darkness of the night. The second was when Rapunzel was just starting to realise that she was the lost princess. As she was finding the sunshine shapes of the Kingdom crest on her walls, she came out from sitting in the shade; Gothel influence, and into the bright light. Rapunzel is a character that everybody loves and feels for as they watch the movie. She is your typical Disney Princess, but she shows more artistic skills and even fights off bad guys. She does not write off bad, mean or ugly looking people, which shows her loveliness. She is a character that the little girls in the audience want to be, teenagers to be, and parents wishing they were.
Rapunzel is a tale written by the Brothers Grimm, which some know the story of, but Tangled is an interpretation of it. Tangled brings humour, drama, adventure to the big screens, leaving the audience wanting more. Lola Myles

Mother Gothel
In the Movie Tangled Mother Gothel plays as one of the major antagonists of the film. Mother Gothel poses as a motherly figurer towards Rapunzel from the day she was kidnapped from the Kingdom but only because of Gothel's selfish purposes. Gothel was originally an old lady with grey hair and wrinkled skin, however come to the discovery of the magic flower and Rapunzel's powers she rejuvenates to a young and beautiful women and with only time, her true self is shown again. As her young form Mother Gothel has raven-black curly hair and is lean with big grey, evil eyes. These features strongly help to portray her evilness and indicate that she has the opposite appearance to Rapunzel (who has blonde, long straight hair) which helps to portray that Gothel is not Rapunzels real mother. She wears a red dress throughout the movie, this symbolises power, danger and desire as well as a black cloak in the night which symbolises evil forces. The clothes portray very strong traits of mother Gothel.
It is clear right from the beginning of Tangled Gothel is selfish by keeping Rapunzel locked up to stop her from ever ageing again. Gothel is very narcissistic by making many comments on her image. She has a soft side towards Rapunzel portrayed when she agrees to go on a three day trip just to get her birthday present. However mainly she is an overprotective, jealous, manipulative, lying mother. These trates are best shown through the song in the movie 'Mother Knows Best', some of the lyrics such as " Ruffians, thugs, poison ivy, quicksand" and "Mother knows best,
Take it from your mumsy. On your own, you won't survive" are manipulating Rapunzel into believing only bad things will come to her if she leaves the tower and Gothel. The song also indicates Gothel is short tempered because it is sung as a response to Rapunzel asking to leave the tower for the first time. However she covers her rage by keeping a poised demeanour when she speaks. Although she has this very poised demeanour she has a breaking point shown when she re-kidnaps Rapunzel and locks her in chains.
Throughout the movie whenever Mother Gothel appears she is shown in dark gloomy lighting and the songs sung by her are in minor key. This is evidence that she is bad, dangerous and has dark emotions; the opposite to the protagonist of the film Rapunzel who is shown in bright lighting giving the viewers a happy, warm feeling about her.
In the beginning of Tangled Mother Gothel is filmed from a low angel shot when she is speaking to Rapunzel symbolising she is more powerful then Rapunzel. However by the end of Tangled Mother Gothel and Rapunzel are both filmed at eye level symbolising they have equal power now.

Flynn Rider
At the beginning of the film, Flynn (Zachary Levi) comes off as a cocky, arrogant and a little bit self centred person. His main concern in life is money, wealth, and the crown he wants to steal from Rapunzel's real parents, the king and queen. As we see deeper into his character he turns out to be sensitive, laid-back and a good hearted person. As an experienced thief Flynn is skilled in escaping the authorities, hiding out and stealing right from under peoples noses. Therefore he is agile, strong and quick-witted. His talents also include, fencing, horseback riding and manoeuvring over high walls and towers. His strikingly good looks have no effect on Rapuzel. At the beginning of the film he is mainly focused on thieving and increasing the size of his personal bank and aspiring to bask in his wealth on his own island one day referencing in the song "I've Got a Dream."
However, as he slowly becomes to fall in love with his new dream, Rapunzel, referencing "I See The Light."
He begins to change into a more caring, compassionate and trustworthy person. He even willingly gives the tiara back to the Stabbington Brothers as an apology, and too keep them off their backs. Flynn starts to loose sight of the importance of becoming rich, as he fights to be with Rapunzel. By the end of the film, Flynn's love for her has grown to the point that he is willing to die for her, so that she can be free. Thus giving up his thieving life.
Flynns appearance is screaming masculinity. He is mostly seen in blues; intelligence, confidence and seriousness. White; goodness, safeness and faithfulness. Brown; masculinity and stability. He is of an average hight and build with short dark brown hair that falls into his eyes, and a scraney goatee. He is around the age of 24. Cameron Christie

Pascal
Pascal is Rapunzel's best friend, and is one of the tritagonists in the film Tangled. Pascal is the main reason Rapunzel left the tower, he stayed with her for 18 years and he hasn't see much of the outside world himself, he was afraid but kept on encouraging Rapunzel. We first see Pascal when he is playing hide and seek with Rapunzel, he stuck around and did everything with her including her chores, playtime and painting. Pascal is a true and loyal friend, even thought he cannot communicate with her, he expresses his mood by changing colour. He is small, green and scaly and has large red eyes, even though pascal is small he thinks he is tough, he may be small but plays a huge role in Rapunzels life.
Pascal is protective of Rapunzel, like when she first meets Flynn rider, he can tell that Rapunzel and Flynn are falling for each other and he becomes affectionate towards him as Pascal realises he is worthy. Pascal showing sympathy and support of the relationship, even though originally seeing Flynn as only a means to seeing the world. This is also seen with Pascals new friendship with Maximus in Tangled Ever After.
