Love
Love plays a huge role in a child's life. The love of parents, friends and relationships.
Parental love is extremely important to a baby, child or teenager as they grow up in life. Showing them
how to love and be loved. The filmTangled is showing us that even if you are not raised by your birth parents you love your caretakers just as much. Having said that, once you find out that they are not your 'real' parents, you start to want to search for them.
In this movie Rapunzel loves Gothel like a mother, them having an exchange of Gothel saying, "I love you." With Rapunzel replying, "I love you more." And Gothel finishing with, "I love you most." It however, never becomes clear if Gothel was referring to Rapunzel or her hair.
Rapunzel's love towards Gothel is further shown after Rapunzel leaves the tower, she becomes conflicted between going back to the tower and staying outside, even though she dreams to stay out of her tower. Later on in the movie Gothel shows she does not truly love Rapunzel when she tries everything to get back her magic hair, not caring what she does to Rapunzel's life. After Gothel passes away and Rapunzel meets her real parents, she realises what true parental love is, considering they lit a lantern every year on her birthday (devotion).
A friends love can also help a child more than we expect. Children rely on their piers for many things, but in this movie Pascal help Rapunzel through a lonely time.
At the beginning of the movie when Rapunzel is singing 'When Will My Life Begin' you see her and Pascal doing everything together, and the song suggests that this is what its like everyday. This means that Pascal has been with her for such a long time, and has never once gone away. He stops her being lonely, and in a way stops being lonely himself. Even Mother Gothel doesn't even know that Pascal exists, not until the end of the end of the movie when Pascal tries to fight to stop Gothel taking Rapunzel away, even when he knew he wouldn't be able to stop her.
In a Teenagers life it is important to show that you can love somebody else and that you can stay true to that, and this is what Rapunzel and Eugene's relationship was.
At the beginning of the film Rapunzel has never met a male before she meets Flynn. Their relationships is rocky at first, since they were spending their time together because of a bribe/blackmail, but Flynn feels quite protective of her, even when he could have just left. Their relationship grows sturdier when they open up to each other in the flood/campfire. After Gothel tries to show Rapunzel that Eugene is a fraud, Rapunzel doesn't believe Gothel, and gives the crown back. Eugene's love for her grows while their in the city, Pascal and Maximus even make a reference. After they both realise their feelings for one another, Eugene feels he must set things right after his old thieving ways with the Stabbington Brothers, but is double crossed because the Stabbington twins just want to get revenge. It's all solved when he shows his love to her by cutting her hair so as not to be taken away by mother Gothel, even if it meant he had to die (true love, right there). It's all resolved when her tear heals him, and the get married and live happily ever after. Lola Myles

Trust
The importance of trust is a very big part of growing up, without it no one would trust anyone, not even themselves. Trust is influenced by friendships, parents and relationships.
Trust is normally earned through a friend, by showing them love and devotion. Pascal shows this towards Rapunzel during the song 'When Will My Life Begin' as you can see Pascal is with her every scene of this song, either helping, playing or just being with her. Even though we have not been directly told in the movie, the friendship between Pascal and her must have started when she was ten years old or up. Since Rapunzel is now eighteen that means Pascale has stayed with her for eight or so years, showing his devotion towards her, and at the same time gaining his trust. Pascal never breaks this trust through out the whole film. Pascal and Flynn also start off at a rocky start, both of them not liking the other, but as Flynn starts to open up to Rapunzel, Pascal trusts him. However Pascal becomes wary when we are led to believe that Flynn runs away with the crown, but all is forgiven when Flynn saves Rapunzel. Flynn and Maximus (the horse) also have a bad start with trying to arrest each other, but in the end Max and the Thugs (Snuggly Duckling) saves Flynn.
Rapunzel trusts Mother Gothel a lot, this is shown by the way she has stayed in the tower for eighteen years, and not once did she leave. The trust for her Gothel however, is strained when Rapunzel first meets Flynn and realises he is nothing like the people Mother Gothel sang about in 'Mother Knows Best'. Mother Gothel also, to a certain extent, believes in Rapunzel, but it is shown that her trust is broken when Rapunzel asks her how she found her and Gothel replies, "I followed the sound of complete and utter betrayal, and followed that". Gothel then tries to break-up Rapunzel and Flynn's relationship when she tells Rapunzel to give him the satchel, "and put him to the test!". This statement only partly shows that their mother/daughter relationship is not going well. It gets fully destroyed when Gothel chains Rapunzel up, and stabs Flynn.
People, especially teenagers have a hard time of trusting someone in a relationship. In Tangled, Rapunzel and Flynn share a romantic relationship. At the beginning they are merle acquaintances, but as the movie progresses they friendship starts to turn into something more. When the are in the cave they trust each other enough to tell each others darkest secrets. Rapunzel shows Flynn that her hair glows, and he tells her his real name. Once they survive the flood, the start to bond more over the campfire, trusting each other enough for Flynn to tell her more of his life story, and how he became to be 'Flynn Rider'. Rapunzel, and even Pascal trust him enough to show him that her hair also heals people.
Unfortunately after being tricked by Gothel and the Stabbington Brother, Rapunzel feels betrayed by Flynn, but he quickly gains her trust and love again when he helps her free of Gothel's curse on her, even if it meant him life. Lola Myles

Breaking Free
Breaking free and leaving home is a big part of growing up and then becoming an adult.
Breaking free and leaving home is a large section of Tangled. Rapunzel is trapped in her tower by Mother Gothel, and by her eighteenth birthday she cannot stay in the tower any longer. Flynn gives her an opportunity to leave the tower without feeling to guilty. She however is not so sure about leaving, this is shown when she spends a lot of her time arguing with herself, "I am such a horrible child", and, "I am never going back!". Even after Flynn tries to talk her out of going (more for his own reasons), but her mind was set to leave the tower to go see her dream. Mother Gothel, like any normal parent, is very hesitant on letting Rapunzel go, though her reasons are not good. Later into the movie when Rapunzel and Flynn are at the camp fire, Rapunzel even emits that she never left because she was to scared, this shows that not everyone wants to leave their parents/home/former life.
At the end of the movie Rapunzel is chained up to Gothel, and puts her freedom on the line to save Flynn from dying, but it all works out in the end. Lola Myles

Friendship
Friendship plays a significant role in the up bringing of a child.
Friendship is important in as child's development, it allows children to have similar dreams and goals and encourage them to achieve intended goals. A friend will handle your talents and help you to develop them with advice. Friendships are important in helping children develop emotionally and socially. It helps them make different ways of communicating to others.
Pascal is a true friend, he doesn't expect anything of Rapunzel and stayed with her for 18 years. We can see he is the driving force in Rapunzel to leave the tower, He always pushed her to face Mother Gothel. Through all this pascal is constantly cheering her up and comforting her.

Dreams

Parenting
The role parents play in children's upbringing affect their views and attitudes in the future.
Parents raise, teach and tell their children essential things in life to help them when they become independent adults. Parents all have different ways of doing this with their different attitudes and views on things in life. Children generally grow up to have the same attitudes and views as their parents. However sometimes children can grow to believe different things from their own experiences.
In Tangled Rapunzel the main character (Rapunzel) is raised by someone who kidnapped her called Mother Gothel. Mother Gothel is a selfish, Manipulative, lying, jealous person who raises Rapunzel to think very different about life compared to what it is really like. Rapunzel was kidnapped by Gothel when she was just a few days old because she was born with magic powers which could stop Mother Gothel from ever ageing again so long as Rapunzel never cut her hair. Mother Gothel locked Rapunzel in an isolated tower and lied to her from the day she could speak. For example when Rapunzel asks "Why can't i leave the tower" Gothel lies to her with "The outside world is a dangerous place filled with horrible, selfish people, you must stay here where you're safe". In the song 'Mother knows best' Rapunzel is told by Mother Gothel about everything dangerous in the world and nothing good so she will believe the world is a dangerous, horrible place and never want to leave Gothel and stay in the tower forever. From a young age Rapunzel is Manipulated into believing everything Mother Gothel tells her simply because she does not know better. Mother Gothel hides her evilness by still caring for Rapunzel by feeding her food and telling her she is beautiful. Rapunzel learns to love and trust Gothel because she has no one else to look up to. Rapunzel grows up to knowing no better then what her mother tells her because she has never met another person.
When Rapunzel comes to meet someone she reacts as if he will hurt her or cut her hair and hits him with a fry pan and locks him in a cupboard. The only way for Rapunzel to leave the tower was to lie to her mother.
Because Rapunzel has no knowledge of the outside world except the bad things she has been told when she finally leaves the tower all the sounds and smells are frightening to her. She eventually comes to realise what a wonderful and beautiful place the outside world is, however she still thinks about returning to the tower because she doesn't want to hurt or make Mother Gothel mad.
In the pub seen it is shown that Rapunzel does not know how to act around big scary men known as Rufians. She is scared at first but then reacts in a manner humans would not in a situation they could be hurt. This is a clear indication she has not been taught appropriate, simple life skills to do in dangerous situations when growing up because her mother never wanted her to be exposed to this situation. When Rapunzel learns about all the good things about life and that she had been lied to for eighteen years she hated Mother Gothel.
Tangled has interpreted a parent who has not taught their child the life skills they need so this affects the child a lot when the child decides to be independent. The views on life in Tangled Show very different outcomes. For example Rapunzel is raised to be very un aware of how to face danger and she comes to see life better when she is 18 and then Flynn the other character has been raised to fight for his survival and is very exposed to danger. The two characters have been raised by different parents so their views and attitudes have been affected in different ways.
